Hello Movie Maniacs
Ryan Reynolds has a magnetic screen presence. In recent times he has been on a roll, and any movie he has touched has been a mass entertainer. His comic timing and the inherent mischief in his voice are his USP. Just look at Deadpool and you will know what I am talking about.
Sadly, his USP has led to him being type casted in a certain kind of a role which is starting to become a tad boring now.
I think he can still carry a movie on his shoulders alone as long as that movie is not from the house of Netflix.
Netflix is milking the Deadpool
Netflix in all its wisdom has tried to encash the popularity of Ryan Reynolds and is in the process of harming his current wave of popularity.
As if 6 underground was not enough, they have presented classical Ryan Reynolds in, yet another disaster titled The Adam Project.
The Plot
The Adam project is a sci-fi action thriller based on the concept of time travel and time paradox. In the movie Ryan Reynolds travels from 2050 to 2022 in order to save the world and ends up meeting his own 12-year-old self.
The Story
The story is full of overused cliches and fails to offer anything new. The action scenes of something that we have seen over and over in the past decade. The big bad villain is not at all threatening and is easily disposed of every time she tries to attack our protagonist.
Acting
On the acting front, Ryan Reynolds once again plays The Ryan Reynolds. He evokes laughter even in an insipid script. Jennifer Garner and Zoe Saldana are both playing a role that could have been played by anyone, and so have nothing much to offer. Mark Ruffalo yet again plays a socially awkward scientist, much like Bruce Banner from MCU.
The Show Stealer
In fact, the best performance in the movie comes from young Walker Scobell, who plays the twelve-year-old version of Ryan Reynolds’ lead character. The kid has complimented the comic timing of Ryan Reynolds perfectly and has the maximum entertaining moments of all the other characters.
Final Verdict
The pace of the story is a tad slow, and the climax fails to boost the adrenaline of the audience thereby making this movie just a casual afternoon watch.
In totality, The Adam Project is an entertaining movie, but it is not something that one would like to replay or rewatch later down the road. To be honest it will do Ryan Reynolds a whole lot of good if he starts declining future Netflix projects.
