Yet another remake
Good Luck Jerry is yet another remake from the originality starved Bollywood. A remake of the 2018 Tamil film Kolamaavu Kokila, this hindi version stars Janhvi Kapoor leading an ensemble cast. Though the movie is not particularly bad, but it is not anything exceptional either.
Plot
The movie revolves around the life of Jaya Kumari aka Jerry, a down on luck Bihari girl who lands up working for Drug mafias of Punjab as a courier. What ensues is a plot full of double crosses after double crosses, as Jerry attempts to save her family from drug mafias.
A weak script
Good luck Jerry has an interesting premise but is let down by a weak and jarring script. Instead of subtle black humour as expected from this genre, we get over the top slapstick comedy which is downright silly at times. The first half is a pleasure as the movie picks up tempo. In the second half though, the movie fails to maintain that momentum and we get a half hearted effort from the writers.
A strong supporting cast
With likes of Mita Vashisht, Deepak Dobriyal, Sushant Singh and Neeraj Sood, there is no dearth of impressive performances in this remake. Deepak Dobriyal particularly has the ability to make one chuckle every time he is on screen. Sushant Singh gives yet another performance worthy of his fame. Saurabh Sachdeva gives a decent performance as the nutjob Malik but sometimes he ends up hamming too much for the liking.
Janhvi shows potential.
Janhvi Kapoor has shown substantial improvement as an actor in this movie. She has played the scared, coy girl in the first half and then delivered as a confident operator in the second as she takes down the entire cartel. Unfortunately, her Bihari accent keeps disappearing periodically unlike the makeup which stays intact even in a gun fight.
A decent one time watch
Good Luck Jerry is a decent one time watch on a lazy weekend. Do not expect to break into laughter and you will enjoy it’s humour. Expect a laugh riot and you will end up disappointed and probably bored.
