Hello Movie Maniacs
Let me say this loud and clear. I have never seen a more horrible piece of trash in the name of a movie than the “Beast.”
It is a hostage crisis, action, drama, comedy and political thriller. You see that is the problem with this movie. It tries to be too many things and the end product is an unpalatable khichdi.
Plot
The story begins with our lead protagonist working undercover in Pak occupied Kashmir, to nab a dreaded terrorist. The opening action sequence is entertaining but way over the top. I mean the terrorist are all kind of nut heads. After all, if you have a Kalashnikov, will you try to club your enemy or just load him with bullets from a safe distance? Well, The mission is successful, but it comes at the cost of a young life, which drives our protagonist into a premature retirement.
The story then quickly shifts to the hostage crisis where a bunch of terrorist take over a mall. Unfortunately for them our protagonist is also in that mall on that fateful day.
Story
From there begins, what can be best described as a mockery of cinema. Our hero is shown as some kind of a superhero. He can defeat a bunch of Armor wearing, machine gun firing death squad with just a shotgun. The fact that he practically moves faster than the bullets, and that even under a barrage of bullets flying, he remains untouched is exaggeration beyond exaggeration. Our hero can drive an open car in a mall, but no bullet will pierce either it’s front glass or even cause a dent in its bonnet.
To add to this hyper macho display of star power, there is forced comedy by a number of sidekicks. There is even a Tamil version of Johnny lever, who is good enough to drive you crazy with cringe. The film also has a political drama going on along the hostage crisis which is cartoonish, to be honest.
Acting
Even on the acting front, not one actor has given a performance that can be called Ok. The forced comedy acts are the worst. Not one gag makes you laugh. And I really want to meet the people who say that Vijay is one of the best actors. Throughout the movie he has the same dead Pan expression. It seems as he was sleepwalking through the entire shooting. Pooja Hegde has nothing of value to add to this movie.
The lazy script writing can be ascertained from just one character. An old woman who despite of being taken hostage, keeps on blabbering like an upset aunt in a marriage. Thankfully, she got a bullet to her head before I could put one to mine.
Final Verdict
This is one movie that should have never been made. It is a movie that does not deserve a release date in a theater, or on OTT, or even on cable television. Skip it and keep your sanity intact.
